Solium Executive Team
Mike Broadfoot, Managing Director, President & Chief Executive Officer
Mike joined Solium as a Managing Director in 2010 and assumed the role of President and CEO in January 2011. He has also been a Board member since 2002, most recently in the position of Chairman.
Mike has an extensive history working in the development of early-stage technology companies. His most recent role before joining Solium was as CEO of Engage Energy, a Calgary-based energy trading and marketing company, which he retired from in 2002. Mike also has an extensive history working with boards of directors. He is currently the Chairman of both the Medgate and the InnerVision Medical Technologies boards, as well as the Director of the Curve Dental board. He is a past Director of Union Gas, the Ontario natural gas utility, and Peyto, a TSX-listed oil and gas company.
Mike has a bachelor of science degree in engineering and an MBA, both from the University of Alberta.
Brian Craig, Managing Director
Brian was Solium’s President and Chief Executive Officer from 2002 to 2006 and is currently a Managing Director. He has been on the Board of Directors since 2001. Prior to joining Solium full-time, Brian founded and was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Stormworks Ltd., a privately held e-business services company that was acquired by Solium.
Brian is a principal at a Calgary-based venture capital company, Adventure Capital. Through this vehicle Brian invests in many early-stage companies, including energy and technology startups. Brian has acquired board and audit committee experience at several businesses he has been involved with, including public and private companies.
Brian is an engineer and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 1981.
Jeff English, Managing Director
Jeff has been with Solium since 2004. Originally the Vice President of Market Development, he became President and CEO in 2006, and shifted into a Managing Director role in 2010. Jeff has also been on the Board of Directors since 2007.
Before joining the Solium team, Jeff was Vice President and Director of Energy Origination at TD Commodity & Energy Trading Inc., a TD Securities division responsible for overseeing market development and product sales to energy clients in North America. Jeff also spent 12 years in progressively senior roles with Engage Energy Canada LP, an energy merchant subsidiary of Westcoast Energy Inc.
Jeff is a significant shareholder in, and sits on the board of a private Calgary-based company with interests in real estate, manufacturing and retail operations.
Jeff has a master's degree in economics from the University of Calgary.
Marcos Lopez, Managing Director
Marcos has been involved with Solium since the company's inception in 1999 and has since led all the application development and system maintenance, and been responsible for all technology-related client relationships. He assumed the role of President of Solium's U.S. subsidiary in 2006, and was the Executive Vice President, Corporate & Business Strategy for the company before assuming the position of Managing Director in 2010. He joined Solium’s Board of Directors in 2010.
Before joining Solium, Marcos co-founded Bitonic Solutions Inc., the software company that was responsible for the architecture, development and maintenance of the Shareworks application. Marcos was the President and CEO of Bitonic Solutions Inc. until it was acquired by Solium in 2002.
Marcos has a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Calgary, and, with his business partner at Bitonic Solutions Inc., was awarded the 2001 Young Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Business Development Bank of Canada.
Rudi Bester, Executive Vice President, Global Sales
Rudi joined Solium in 2006 as the Vice President, Market Development, and was appointed Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, the following year. In 2008 he was promoted to Executive Vice President, Global Sales, a role which has him overseeing all of Solium's sales and market development initiatives.
Prior to joining Solium, Rudi worked in progressively senior management roles for Ceridian, and before that was self-employed for more than a decade. He began his sales management career with Cilag AG, a global subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson Professional Products.
Rudi graduated from the IMM Graduate School of Marketing in South Africa with a major in marketing management, and is currently completing an MBA in Leadership & Sustainability through the University of Cumbria, in the U.K.
June Davenport, Executive Director, Corporate Services
June has been a driving force at Solium since she joined the company in 2000. Initially, June was responsible for building the operational infrastructure for Solium in North America. In her most recent role as Executive Vice President, Business Integration, she oversaw strategic partner integration and directed the customer relationship team. June has recently taken on a new assignment – in a new geography – as Executive Director, Corporate Services for Solium Capital UK. Based in London, June is part of a core team focused on building Solium's market presence and operational base in Europe.
June has more than 25 years of experience working with all types of share entitlement programs, including more than 15 years specializing in defined contribution savings and retirement plans in the trust industry. Before joining Solium, June spent 14 years in progressively senior roles with Royal Trust and the Royal Bank of Canada.
June has completed the Canadian Securities Course, the Canadian Securities Institute Professional Financial Planning Course and the CEBS Certificate of Academic Achievement in Retirement Plans. June graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in business management from the University of Strathclyde, in Scotland.
Jeannie Kezama, Executive Vice President, Human Resources
Jeannie joined Solium in 2007 as the Vice President, Service Operations, and assumed the role of Executive Vice President later that year. Currently, Jeannie provides executive oversight on all aspects of customer service operations and ensures that Solium continues to evolve and implement industry-leading practices in all areas that impact client service.
Prior to joining Solium, Jeannie was the Operations Manager at Louis Dreyfus Energy Canada Inc., where she played an integral role in the organization's startup in Calgary. Jeannie has extensive experience managing high-performance teams known for delivery, performance and client empathy. She brings to Solium a proven ability to lead teams, scale operations and contribute strategic input towards operational goals.
Lynn Leong, Executive Vice President, Finance & Administration
Lynn has been with Solium since 2000 and brings experience in regulatory compliance, business modeling, finance, treasury, financial planning and taxation, as well as accounting and financial reporting skills.
Before joining Solium, Lynn was the Corporate Controller for Net Shepherd Inc., an Alberta-based public high-technology company listed on the CDNX. Lynn was a senior manager and the Chairperson of the High-Technology Industry Specialty Group in the Deloitte & Touche Calgary office.
Lynn obtained her bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Calgary in 1989 and received her Chartered Accountant designation in 1993.
Scott Scobie, Executive Vice President, Service Operations
Scott joined Solium in June 2011 as Executive Vice President, Service Operations. Scott provides executive oversight on all aspects of customer service, implementations, reconciliation and administration. From August 2005 to May 2011, Scott was Vice President and General Manager for Canadian Western Trust a subsidiary of Canadian Western Bank.
From 1998 to 2005, Scott held progressively senior roles cumulating with Senior Vice President at The Northern Trust Company, Canada (Toronto). In addition, Scott spent over 6 years with State Street Trust Company as Assistant Vice President and Unit Head for their pension division.
Scott's credentials and affiliations include: Sales & Marketing Executives International (SMEI); Langara College, Finance & Investments; Specialist, Trust Institute (STI); Designation - Canadian Bankers Association; and past Director for Northern Trust Global Advisors.
