Michael Broadfoot, Director
Mike has been a member of Solium's Board since 2002, most recently in the position of Chairman. He joined Solium full-time in 2010, as a Managing Director and assumed the role of President and CEO in January 2011.
Mike has an extensive history working in the development of early-stage technology companies. His most recent role before joining Solium was CEO of Engage Energy, a Calgary-based energy trading and marketing company, which he retired from in 2002.
Mike also has an extensive history working with boards of directors. He is currently the Chairman of both the Medgate and the InnerVision Medical Technologies boards, as well as the Director of the Curve Dental board. He is a past Director of Union Gas, the Ontario natural gas utility, and Peyto, a TSX-listed oil and gas company.
Mike has a bachelor of science degree in engineering and an MBA, both from the University of Alberta.
Brian Craig, Executive Chairman
Brian has served on the Solium Board of Directors since 2001, and has served in the role of President and Chief Executive Officer for the company from May 2002 to May 2006.
Prior to joining Solium full-time, Brian founded and was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Stormworks Ltd., a privately held e-business services company that was acquired by Solium.
Brian is a principal at a Calgary-based venture capital company, Adventure Capital. Through this vehicle Brian invests in many early-stage companies, including energy and technology startups. Brian has acquired board and audit committee experience at several businesses he has been involved with, including public and private companies.
Brian is an engineer and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 1981.
Michael Deleray, Director
Michael joined Solium's Board of Directors in November 2009, with more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Michael is a founding partner of Bendigo Partners, LLC, a New York-based company that focuses on investment and operating partner opportunities in the global, technology-driven financial services market.
Michael began his career working in retail brokerage and securities at Dean Witter Reynolds and Fidelity Investments, then branched into operations and management at E*TRADE Financial. He later became an expert in global financial services as CEO of the then publicly-traded E*TRADE Australia, and as President of U.S. Equity Services at Computershare Ltd.
In 2007, Michael founded Deleray & Co., which provides consultancy services to the financial industry. His clients have ranged from registrars to brokers to exchanges, in markets as diverse as the U.S., the U.K. and India, and his areas of expertise include retail brokerage, share-registry services and acquisitions.
Michael graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He splits his time between California and New York.
Jeff English, Director
Jeff has been with Solium since 2004, and has been a board member since 2007. Originally Solium's Vice President of Market Development, he became President and CEO in 2006, overseeing the company's global operations and providing strategic direction for Solium's growth and expansion. Jeff is currently a Managing Director in the company.
Before joining the Solium team, Jeff was Vice President and Director of Energy Origination at TD Commodity & Energy Trading Inc. a TD Securities division responsible for overseeing market development and product sales to energy clients in North America. Jeff also spent 12 years in progressively senior roles with Engage Energy Canada LP, an energy merchant subsidiary of Westcoast Energy Inc.
Jeff is a significant shareholder in, and sits on the board of a private Calgary-based company with interests in real estate, manufacturing and retail operations.
Jeff has a master's degree in economics from the University of Calgary.
Marcos Lopez, Director
Marcos has been involved with Solium since the company's inception in 1999 and has since led the application development and system maintenance, and been responsible for all technology-related client relationships. He joined the Board in 2010, assumed the role of President of Solium's U.S. subsidiary in 2006, and was previously the Executive Vice President, Corporate & Business Strategy for the company before assuming the position of Managing Director in 2010.
Before joining Solium, Marcos co-founded Bitonic Solutions Inc., the software company that was responsible for the architecture, development and maintenance of the Shareworks application. Marcos was the President and CEO of Bitonic Solutions Inc. until it was acquired by Solium in 2002.
Marcos has a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Calgary, and, with his business partner at Bitonic Solutions Inc., was awarded the 2001 Young Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Business Development Bank of Canada.
Margot Micallef, Director
Margot joined Solium's Board of Directors in 2010. She is currently the President of Oliver Capital Partners Inc., a company she founded in 2003 that provides M&A advisory and corporate finance services to public and private companies. She also serves as counsel for Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP, where she assists in the creation and launch of strategic initiatives, and assists lawyers and clients in the areas of M&As, divestitures and governance matters. Further to her professional career, she is involved in educational initiatives as an adjunct professor of governance and ethics at the University of Alberta and a faculty member of the Directors College, a joint venture between McMaster University and the Conference Board of Canada.
Margot is currently a member of the ENMAX Corporation Board of Directors and Chair of the ENMAX Corporate Governance Committee. She is also on the Canadian Women in Communications Board of Directors and the Canwest Board of Directors, and was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 2002.
Margot lives in Calgary.
Colleen Moorehead, Lead Director
Colleen joined Solium's Board of Directors in 2010. She is currently the Entrepreneur in Residence at Signal Hill Equity Partners, where she identifies and evaluates new investment opportunities and assists portfolio companies in executing strategies. Signal Hill Equity Partners is a Toronto-based private equity firm managed by experienced investors and business operators, focusing on Canadian mid-market companies.
Colleen's previous roles have included President and CEO of Nexient Learning, Vice President & General Manager of E*TRADE Financial Global Corporate Services and President/Vice President & Country Manager of E*TRADE Canada, which she also founded.
Colleen has been a member, director and vice-chair of a diverse group of boards in the past, including the Women's College Hospital Capital Campaign, the Stratford Festival Theatre, the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation, the TSX Policy Committee, and many others. She was also one of the original founders of The Judy Project, an organization that aims to help women advance into senior leadership and CEO positions.
Colleen has an honorary doctorate of civil law from St. Mary's University, and an honors degree in business administration with a minor in economics from the Wilfrid Laurier University.
Tom Muir, Director
Tom joined Solium's Board of Directors in 2010. He is the Co-Managing Director of Muir Detlefsen & Associates Limited, a Toronto-based firm that seeks to create shareholder value for its financial investor partners, and the Chief Transaction Officer and a Director of Ceres Global Ag Corp.
From 2005 to 2006, Tom was the Chief Development Officer of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., and from 1995 to 2005 he was the company's Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Maple Leaf Foods Inc., Mr. Muir was the Vice-President, a Director and a member of the executive committee of RBC Dominion Securities Inc. where he was Co-Head of the firm's investment banking group and, prior to that, Co-Head of the firm's M&A group. Prior to joining RBC Dominion Securities Inc., Mr. Muir was a Senior Manager in the financial services consulting practice of Ernst & Whinney and before that worked in the firm's auditing group.
Mr. Muir has a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Toronto, and holds the Chartered Accountant and Fellow, Chartered Business Valuator designations.
